When it comes to the tissue fixation of glycogen, lymph nodes, and proteins, there is no better substance than picric acid. In 1897, Pol André Bouin, a French histologist, made his mark on the field of histology when he successfully introduced Bouin's Fluid to the world. Bouin's Fluid from American MasterTech is the most commonly used and trusted picric acid fixative. Bouin's Fluid is also a great coagulant of proteins and lipids that won't dissolve in an aqueous solution of picric acid. MasterTech Bouin's Fluid is also an excellent fixative for Trichrome stains as it serves as a fixative and mordant. Bouin's Fluid also lyses red blood cells.

As good as picric acid is, all histotechs know that it can be dangerous to work with. In fact, if dried, it can become explosive. At one time picric acid was even used by the military. With that in mind, American MasterTech developed Low Hazard Bouin's 2000. Bouin's 2000 contains no picric acid yet works and performs exactly like traditional Bouin's Fluid! Think of that, a low-hazard Bouin's which even smells pleasant! Anyone who has ever worked with Bouin's Fluid will tell you that it doesn't smell very good at all! Bouin's 2000 is the low-hazard replacement for traditional Bouin's Fluid, only from American MasterTech.
