Stains for dermatomycoses in as little as 30 minutes!
Dermatomycoses, also known as supberficial mycoses, are fungal infections that are found in the outermost layers of the skin and hair. The most common technique in diagnosing dermatomycoses uses a potassium hydroxide (KOH) wet mount procedure. This technique is quick, provides no color and requires trained professionals to interpret the results.
In the MasterTech Chicago Sky-Blue Stain Kit, the Chicago Sky-Blue Stain (CSB) highlights the fungal elements blue against a colorless to pink background stained by the potassium hydroxide (KOH). This provides a strong color contrast that results in a quick, easy, and reliable way to diagnose dermatomycoses. Just scrape suspected skin cells onto a microscope slide, use one drop each of the Chicago Sky-Blue Stain and the potassium hydroxide (KOH), coverslip, and in as little as thirty minutes, the slide is ready to be viewed under the microscope!
