From American MasterTech, the most trusted name in tissue fixation.
Some of the more popular fixatives in the field of histology are Formaldehyde solutions like 10% Formalin and 20% Formalin, which are used to preserve human and animal remains. Formaldehyde first appeared on the scene in 1893, much later than most other fixatives. While being used as an antiseptic, the fixative properties of Formaldehyde were discovered. 10% Formalin and Formaldehyde are generally referred to as being the same thing, however, 37%-40% Formaldehyde is known to be 100% Formalin. 10% Formalin is created by diluting one part of the stock solution and nine parts of water.
MasterTech Formalin is a buffered non-coagulant fixative, known to penetrate tissue very quickly. One of the best traits of Formalin is that it causes less tissue shrinkage than any other tissue fixative. Tissues being fixated in formalin are influenced by not only the concentration, but the temperature at which the fixative is used.
With over 100 years under its belt, Formalin is widely used and trusted by histologists and pathologists to produce fixed tissue that is not only easy to work with, but helps produce a specimen that is consistent and accurate.
